Primitive Camping

Welcome to the campground at Hound Dog
The campground at Hound Dog is located on 30 acres of forest and grassland. It is within a few miles of many tourist destinations including Franklin, NC (7 miles), the Appalachian Trail (4 miles), Cullasaja Falls
(15 miles), Dillard House Restaurant (23 miles), Upper Nantahala River--among the 2 or 3 best trout streams in the eastern United States--(6 miles), Cherokee, NC and Great Smoky Mountains Park (45 miles), and so on.
The campground at Hound Dog has no hook-ups. Most campsites have their own drive-thru parking. There is a primitive outhouse. The water source is a well on the property--one spigot for the whole campground. The campground is 1/4 mile from the 4-lane highway.

Current prices are $19 to $29 per site per night.

SET UP CAMP AND STAY A WHILE.

Wear long sleeves and long pants to protect against sun, briers, biting insects and poison ivy. Biting insects are not as bad in these mountains as many places, but there are some. Wear sturdy shoes for climbing steep slopes and walking through mud. Muddy places are infrequent, but present. Bring complete camping gear--wash pan, dish pan, cooking pans, etc.
